Act Will Support Restructuring Halt Salary Review

first_imgNew legislation introduced today, May 3, supports the recent restructuring of several government departments. The Act Respecting the Administration of Government would also halt a planned review of MLA salaries and any resulting increases, transfer Voluntary Planning to the Treasury Board, and assign the supervision of Government House to the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs. “The new legislation is necessary given the government restructuring announced in January,” said Deputy Premier Frank Corbett. “In particular, the bill supports the recent amalgamation of the Emergency Management Office with the Department of Justice to better co-ordinate public safety and respond to major emergencies.” An amendment to the House of Assembly Act is also included in the bill, to postpone, until after the next general election, an inquiry and report about compensation for MLAs, the Speaker, and Deputy Speaker.last_img read more
