This Blog should not be construed as legal advice or as pertaining to specific factual circumstances. It is Asian American Heritage Month. As we celebrate the many contributions of Asian Americans, let’s also bury the “model minority myth.” The myth hurts Asian Americans and here’s why:If you are a model minority, you are not likely to get the help that you very well may need. When we assume all individuals in a group are stellar, the individuals who need support are less likely to get it.If you are a model minority, then there is an implication that you may be stronger than others. This can result in bias against individuals who are white or members of other minority groups who, in fact, are stronger when it comes to a particular job opportunity. With the model minority myth may come higher expectations. Being good is not good enough. We expect more: why isn’t this person as successful “as they should be?” This may result in bias against Asian Americans because of the inflated expectations. When individuals talk about Asian Americans as the model minority, there can be a tendency to focus on math and science. This may hurt Asian Americans when they apply for jobs that require strong interpersonal skills such as HR. That is, the myth may create silos for Asian Americans.Let’s acknowledge how much better our world is because of the contributions of Asian Americans without stereotyping about them in a way that sounds benign but is anything but.
Lack of good governance and records management policies means that many companies hold onto information far longer than they should. And that could be a problem.A survey of companies found that 7 out of 10 companies are not purging information after its regulatory expiration date. Organizations that fail to comply with regulations could be subject to prosecution or fines. The solution of course is to create an organizational governance framework. And technology tools can form a strong core for enabling that framework. Document and Records management systems are important components of such a framework.

TrueView for action ads are designed for performance advertisers and feature call-to-action banners at the base of the video ads. What’s changing? There are two key attribution points that are changing:YouTube will now count an ‘Engagement’ whenever a user clicks or watches 10 seconds or more of a TrueView for action ad when using maximize conversions or target CPA bidding. That’s a change from 30 seconds.A ‘Conversion’ will be counted, by default, when a user takes action on an ad within 3 days of an ‘Engagement.’ If you want this changed, you will have to ask your Google rep to customize this time frame. That’s a change from 30 days. For users who click your ad, YouTube will still attribute conversions according to the conversion window you have set (the default is 30 days). Why the change? YouTube says it is changing the default attribution window from 30 seconds and 30 days to 10 seconds and 3 days to better reflect “the relationship between video ad exposure and conversions.”Nicky Rettke, YouTube group product manager, wrote, “We conducted large-scale experiments to analyze the incremental conversion volume driven by TrueView for action ads across a broad range of advertiser industries and conversion types.”What it means for advertisers? The shorter engagement-to-conversion window will mean faster ramp up times for target CPA campaigns and more current reporting, says Google. However, advertisers are charged on an engagement basis for TrueView ads. Importantly, this change also means advertisers will be charged after a user watches 10 seconds rather than 30 seconds of your ad. Advertisers will need to monitor their TrueView for action campaigns closely to understand the impact of this change on their budgets and performance. This story first appeared on Search Engine Land.
