Let’s put it this way, I made a lot of money playing soccer in Canada I am now giving back something,” Carrington noted. He is hopeful that the national football team will “appreciate the track suits” especially when they are travelling.“It’ll look real nice because I remember when I use to play for Dominica we didn’t have track suits, so I hope they will appreciate what I did and there’s more to follow”.While Carrington has been making donations to the DFA, various clubs, teams and even the Dominica Calypso Association for a number of years, he prefers to “keep it underneath. I am not really a public person when it comes to that”. He was described by former national player Clem John, as “one of the one of the best goal keepers we saw in the 1960’s that’s why he was called birds”.Public relations officer of the DFA, Gerard George noted that the track suits will come in handy as Dominica will be hosting the Windward Island’s Tournament in April 2014, in the honour of deceased senior coach and player who passed on last year.He added that the team also has to travel for the Caribbean Cup. “So Mr Carrington I think you are right on time with those track suits”.President of the DFRA ,Niron Williams (left) with former national player George CarringtonPresident of the Dominica Football Referees Association, Niron Williams who accepted the donation from Mr Carrington, expressed gratitude for the assistance.“Often times, the referees who do a critical part of the game, are most times left out but it is very heartwarming to see that Mr Carrington didn’t leave us out this time”.He stated further that the kits given are very timely, although they are nearing the end of the season, there are some new referees who do not have kits and thus will benefit from the donation.Williams also urged the referees to ensure that the kits are used towards the development of football.“I must say to the referees that Mr Carrington didn’t donate kits to us to have at our homes, I’m sure the aim is to come out here, look smart in the uniforms and do a very good job on the field”. “Our football will not develop without good referees, our national team will not perform properly without good refereeing and in order to do that, referees need to be committed to training and to the laws of the game and come out on the field and do a very good job,” Williams said. DFA treasurer, Phillip White accepted the donation on behalf of the Dominica Football Association as president Glen Ettienne is out of state on assignment.Dominica Vibes News
